Back in June of last year I was finally able to visit Griffis Sculpture Park in East Otto, NY.  It's a glorious outdoor space that spans 425 acres and features all sorts of art - mostly sculptures.  In this post I will feature a fraction of the photos I took that day.  Here's one of the space ships.

My mother, sister, niece, and I went.  Some of the sculptures you could get "in" - like this space ship.

The park was created by Larry W. Griffis in 1966.  It features over 250 art installations from 100 artists.

It was said that he got the idea of the park while seeing something similar while traveling with his family in Italy.

All 4 of us really liked the park.  It was a lovely day.  My mother usually isn't into art much - my father is the one I share my love of art with - but - I think my mom really got behind this.

Don't quote me on this - but - I think this red one - somehow could be lit with a flame.  Certain times of the year they do themed events and have lighted up displays and such.

I just LOVED the way this photo turned out.  It was taken from the inside of the sculpture - looking up!

Here's what the outside looked like.  Pretty Cool, eh?  I belive this one was wood and concrete, mostly.

I'm not sure if this next one was a permenant installation.  For some reason - I think it was 'on loan'.

It was very unusual but certainly fun to see!  You could knock on it and tell it was hallow for the most part.

Here's another angle of the sculpture.  It looked different from each angle - I should have taken more pics.

There is a building on the grounds that I think used to be the founders studio.  This was in the back of it in a garden area.

This was one of the other space ships.  I really like this one.  This one is often used in press photos I have seen of the land/space.  I was able to get photos from other angles, too...

This is the backside.  Another one you can 'get in to'.  My niece really liked this one!

And a close up with "Nana".  My mother hates her photo taken but some of these photos are among my favorite over the years!

There was a stream with a lot of stones and rocks.  People who have visited have started stacking them.

broken image

There was at least 1 bridge, too.  Possibly more.  We didn't go deep into the wooded area so I know we didn't see everything the park had to offer.  I hope to go back someday!

One of my other faves - were these mushrooms.  You could sit under them for photos if you wanted to.

Like my niece Trinity did here.  The day we were there we had almost the entire place to ourselves.  For a little while there were 2 ladies that were just finishing up a walk of their own.

There was a pond with sculptures surrounding it.  You can see they reflect nicely into the water, too.

broken image

There was a bug theme throughout the space.  They were among Trinity's favorite, too!

This was one of her favorites and I just love the look on her face.  So funny and cute!

This was one of the few - we saw - with color.  I think it was aluminum or tin or something.

Here's another picture of Trinity.  She has gotten used to me and my photo-taking already.

Did I mention this post was going to be photo heavy?  Yeah...I'm not done yet.  Here's another one!

broken image

And another one...

broken image

And another...

broken image

And another.  This one is pretty cool!  I like how you can see the greenery thru it.

broken image

This was pretty awesome, too!  If you look at it real close you can see faces on the sides.  I have a close up below, too, but I have to say that Trinity knows just what to do in cases like these.  I don't think I even suggested this pose - she just did it.  So funny!

broken image

Here are a couple of the faces we saw.  Trinity and I spotted them first and she had a good giggle over them.

broken image

She found another one that made her laugh and she had to put her eyes thru it.  I quickly took a pic.

Again, these are just a selection of the photos taken that day.  It was something we won't forget anytime soon.  2 thumbs up from mother and daughter here!  Trinity had just turned 4 in these photos and in just a couple of months will be turning 5.  Time sure flies!
